Safety — Approach
To maximize safety, we must protect our employees against weaknesses that may develop in the safety system by recognizing risks and the potential for error, and by resolving these issues quickly and at the local level, while trying to prevent them from reoccurring. This approach drives improvements in equipment, work methods, and individual and group performance. Our success is ongoing thanks to the commitment of employees at every level to adopting the necessary changes in behaviour and organizational culture. We believe safety is inextricably linked to cultural change. Our ultimate goal is to establish an effective and efficient organization-wide safety system. Initiatives to change the safety culture have been launched, such as the introduction of the concept of human performance. The improvement of our safety system rests on four main pillars: assessing risks; developing and implementing operational controls; monitoring and maintaining hazard recognition, risk assessment, and operational control activities; and reacting to correct gaps in our protective systems. Our safety systems are reviewed regularly to ensure the ongoing relevance and effectiveness of the safety management system at each of our plants.
