Result of our 2008 Goals — Health & Safety
  
Objective: 20% reduction in the frequency of reportable injuries compared to 2007.
Results:
  • Not reached, higher by 12%.
 
Objective: 20% reduction in total injuries (including first aid).
Results:
  • Not reached, higher by 42%, the Baie-Comeau Smelter recorded a series of accidents, mainly attributable to inattention and behaviors. The smelter has implemented observation programs and structured plant tours which should ensure a return to typical levels in 2009.
 
Objective: Implement observation programs, with the participation of union representatives.
Results:
  • Achieved at the Baie-Comeau Smelter and under development at Bécancour.
 
Objective: Increase the level of health and safety intervention by coaches and production supervisors.
Results:
  • Reached, this helped minimize risks and provided a better safety framework in the plants.
