Result of our 2008 Goals — Community
Objective: Participation of 12% of Alcoa Canada Primary Metals employees in the Bravo! program. Results:
- Reached a 14.5% level of participation in 2008.
Objective: Increase in the number of employees participating in the regional ACTION program during the Worldwide Month of Service. Results:
- Reached, in 2008, nearly 200 employees participated in the Worldwide Month of Service in the regions where Alcoa has a smelter, compared to 111 in 2007.
Objective: Establishment of long-term partnerships by investing in programs that have concrete goals and a significant impact in the regions in which Alcoa is present. Results:
- Reached, nine long-term partnerships were established with organizations in each of the communities where Alcoa Canada Primary Metals is located.
Objective: Establishment of goals in each plant for their community support policy. Results:
- Goals were established at the Baie-Comeau and Bécancour smelters, the Deschambault Smelter will follow suit in 2009.
Objective: Creation and launching of a play about sustainable development to be performed in the regions. Results:
- Reached, With support from the Alcoa Foundation, the play, Acteurs de changement (“Agents of Change”), was launched in April 2008 to be presented by the Regroupement des Conseils régionaux de l’environnement in most Québec regions. This play-forum serves as a preface to a debate and training workshop on sustainability aimed at decision-makers.
