Procurement — Approach
Procurement at Alcoa is a global function focused on delivering solutions that drive increasing, sustainable value to our businesses and communities. Since 2001, we have worked to transform our procurement from a location-based organization to world-class global supply management. To this end, we have established a foundation of core strategies, processes, human resources training, tools, measures, and support for suppliers that allow us to leverage opportunities on a local, regional, and global basis. We also aim to embed sustainability in our procurement process. Upon the recommendation of our Sustainability Advisory Committee, we developed a grading scheme for selecting suppliers based on sustainability criteria that we are piloting in 2009. We also plan to develop measures that can help suppliers improve their performance in this area.
