Economic Development — Overview
We understand the importance of the economic value we generate to our customers, shareholders, employees, and the communities in which we operate. These stakeholders are impacted by, among other things, our capital investments, purchases of goods and services, taxes, salaries, community investments, and shareholder returns. Disciplined financial management is essential to ensure long-term success for us and our stakeholders. We maintain robust financial controls, a strong dedication to financial returns, a sound financial structure, and an intense focus on creating value through top-line growth, strategic capital spending, and cost-reduction activities. In Canada, Alcoa employs more than 4,000 people at 13 facilities and plants including the four belonging to Alcoa Canada Primary Metals. Activities vary from primary aluminum production to the transportation and aeronautics sectors, and architectural systems.
