  2. We work in consultation and in concert with the communities.
  3. We use our resources and those of the Alcoa Foundation to improve the quality of life in the communities.
  4. We support our employees’ volunteer community support services.
  5. We contribute to collective wealth creation by supporting regional economic development and the initiatives put forward by our local partners.
  6. We communicate our sustainable development performance in a transparent manner.

Definitions

Sustainable Development
According to Québec legislation, sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable development is based on a long-term vision that takes into account the indissociable nature of the environmental, social and economic dimensions of development activities.

Collective Wealth Creation
The creation of collective wealth, in a sustainable development perspective, aims at progress for human beings, heightened well-being and enhanced quality of life in the communities, the durability of resources, and improvement in the capacity of the community to take charge of its future.

Quality of Life
Quality of life can be defined as access to education, employment, health and social services, cultural activities and leisure, and as the fair division of resources, economic security and quality of the environment.
