Keops, the key to lockout at the Rod Plant

Without fanfare or fuss, the Keops lockout software system was efficiently installed by the team in charge of this safety procedure at the Bécancour Rod Plant (UTB). They were assisted by the Alcoa lockout team.
Thanks to their involvement in evaluating this tool right from the start, Richard Leclair and André Côté were able to add a few components to the software to reflect some of UTB’s unique requirements, such as the use by employees of a common sheet for the work permit and the lockout record.
During the training provided to targeted UTB users, a number of crucial points were raised to further optimize the tool and its use. At the request of other customers, the development group was already preparing solutions that would enable users to file the sheets by type of work. We also chose this approach since it responds better to our needs. We are pleased to confirm that the first sheets have been used successfully, first in trial mode and then on a permanent basis.
The lockout system protects us when we are working on a piece of equipment. A highly effective system ensures our safety and increases our quality of life. Of course, we must continuously do our part to give it life and adapt it to our evolving needs, thereby ensuring that it will always protect all the workers at our plant.
