Alcoa joins Earth Day efforts to help out the planet!
For the eighth consecutive year, Alcoa has joined Earth Day to help out the planet.
The team behind Earth Day encourages us to work together to create a new, green society. Alcoa contributes by improving the environmental performance of its facilities and through a variety of partnerships.
In Montréal, Alcoa Foundation supported the Green Wall, a flourishing initiative that provides thermal and noise insulation for the Darling Foundry, not to mention an air pollution filter in the Old Montréal district.
Alcoa has also supported the Matériaux pour les Arts Montéal (materials for the arts) 3R-V initiative from its early days. The project involves gathering materials from industry, businesses and institutions that would be destined for landfill and making them available to artists, organizations and institutions that can use them beneficially in their artistic endeavours.
Alcoa Foundation is also a proud partner of Défi, on recycle (recycling challenge), an initiative targeting SMEs in the Nicolet-Yamaska-Bécancour region.
The travelling exhibit, Bâtirvert l’avenir (building for a green future) is an environmentally responsible and carbon neutral initiative that encompasses a number of activities offered free of charge to residents in various areas of Québec. During an activity in Trois-Rivières on April 22, there was an exhibit of works by photographer Cindy Diane Rheault that paid homage to responsible businesses in the province.
In collaboration with Regroupement des Conseils régionaux de l’environnement, the play Acteurs de changement (agents of change) is also attracting attention across the province. The objective of this interactive theatrical performance is to raise awareness among decision-makers and the public, and prompt them to reflect on sustainability.
“For us, Earth Day is synonymous with collective effort and progress since everyone gets involved. Alcoa is proud to be among those taking action,” said Lise Sylvain, Regional Manager, Environment and Sustainability at Alcoa Canada.
