2007 — Community
Centraide: Alcoa practically doubles its donation
Every year, Centraide, an umbrella charitable organization, runs one of the most important fund-raising campaigns in Quebec, and redistributes the money it raises to hundreds of non-profit organizations that help people in need. Every year, the staff of Alcoa Canada Primary Metals generously participates in this campaign. The company adds its contribution so as to make an even more significant difference in the communities; the donations made in different regions of Québec remain in the regions in which they are made, enriching the social fabric.
In 2006, the total amount donated by both employees and the company exceeded $310,000, almost twice the total for the preceding year.
Alcoans in Baie-Comeau, Bécancour, Deschambault, and Montréal also contribute to numerous other charities. These include, notably, Opération Enfant Soleil, of which the Bécancour smelter is one of the most enthusiastic supporters. When to this is added the contributions of the Alcoa Foundation in Quebec–nearly $950,000 in 2006 alone–it is clear that Alcoa and its staff play an active and important social role in their communities.
