Benzo(a)pyrene in the ambient air in Baie-Comeau is measured at three sampling stations. A fourth sampling station, which became operational in 2010, was installed on Bienville Street in the Saint-Georges neighborhood. This new station was added to better evaluate the true conditions in the area. We have noted that concentration detected at this station are much lower than those found at Station 1, found on Bouchette Street, although the Bienville station is closer to the smelter.
The results from these sampling stations, which can vary according to prevailing winds on the days samples are recorded, are the average of approximately 25 annual samples.
