Diversity

For Alcoa Canada, promoting diversity means focusing on how to build on our similarities while leveraging our differences to achieve optimal performance. We believe in creating a quality work environment where all of our employees are challenged to reach their full potential.

All qualified individuals seeking job opportunities with us will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, nationality, physical ability, sexual orientation, gender, or age.

Diversity reaches beyond the purview of the Human Resources department. Our president and the entire management team are committed to ensuring that all of our teams endorse and actively champion the company's diversity initiatives.

Promoting diversity in our operations
In a context where competency management and succession planning are key issues, we continuously aim to foster diversity within our teams, as evidenced by the representation of women on our workforce.

At the end of 2010, 19% of all our engineers were female, specifically 30% of engineers aged 45 years or less.

Respecting diversity in the workplace
We foster a workplace in which all employees are valued and encouraged to express their ideas and opinions. To this end, we have created a number of networks that support diversity across Alcoa’s worldwide operations. To learn more, click on the links in the right margin.

No incident related to diversity was reported in 2010.

Diversity: a strength
The scope of Alcoa Canada Global Primary Products activities reaches well beyond the borders of Québec and Canada. Thanks to projects in Iceland, Norway and elsewhere in the world, our employees, from both the operational and technical sides of our business, are sharing their expertise and best practices on the world stage. They are called upon by colleagues from all parts of the world to exchange knowledge. They can also be invited to travel to different countries for a few days or a few months. Led by the Centre of Excellence, a pool of expertise from throughout Alcoa’s Global Primary Products that is based at the Deschambault Smelter, we are sharing our operational expertise with colleagues around the world.
