The Alcoa Women's Network: for better leadership

Some 30 women who work for Alcoa in various regions of Quebec, and who are at various stages of their careers, meet each year to deal with a current issue of particular concern to them.
Alcoa Canada Primary Metal's women's network was created three years ago. It is one of the local networks in the worldwide Alcoa Women’s Network. It brings together staff at the Baie-Comeau, Bécancour and Deschambault smelters, and at the Montreal head office of Alcoa Canada Primary Metals. The goal of the network is to promote leadership amongst women by means of exchanges on best practices and on work experiences. The themes of the meetings, as varied as they are relevant, range from leadership to balancing work and family.
Moreover, the network has set up a mentoring pilot project within the company. Pairing women and experienced company managers encourages the exchange of best practices and assures a pool of potential replacements who are even better prepared. The program, now managed by the human resources group, will be used for both men and women.
