In Quebec
Alcoa Canada Primary Metals is made up of the Baie-Comeau, Bécancour* and Deschambault
smelters, as well as the Bécancour Rod Plant. These four plants, all of which are
ISO 9001: 2000 and ISO 14001:2004 certified, have an annual production capacity
of over one million metric tons of ingots, castings, billets and aluminum rods.
Alcoa Canada Primary Metals employs more than 3,200 people and its activities generate
over $1.6 billion** in economic spin-offs annually in Quebec.
In Canada
In addition to Alcoa Canada Primary Metals’ production of primary aluminum, Alcoa
Canada operates processing plants serving the aerospace, automobile and construction
industries. Its facilities and plants are mainly located in Quebec and Ontario.
Around the world
Alcoa is a leading producer of primary and fabricated aluminum, and manager of alumina
facilities worldwide. The company is active in all major aspects of the aluminum
industry: research and development, mining, refining, smelting, processing and recycling.

Contribution of Alcoa Canada Primary Metals
Alcoa Canada Primary Metals meets Alcoa's high standards for governance and ethics.
All our plants are certified ISO 9001: 2000 and ISO 14 001: 2004. As part of Alcoa's
audit program, the Deschambault Smelter was awarded the Triple Crown for having
received a score of Excellent in each of the three dimensions evaluated: Environment,
Finance, and Health and Safety.
Alcoa Foundation
In 1952, Alcoa created an independent, non-profit foundation, constituted according
to the by-laws in effect in the United States. The Alcoa Foundation actively invests
to improve quality of life in the countries where Alcoa operates. Foundation grants
meet local and global needs in four sectors of excellence:
- Conservation and Sustainability
- Global Education and Workplace
- Skills Business and Community Partnerships Safe and
- Healthy Children and Families
The Foundation manages Alcoa’s ACTION and Bravo! programs, which support employee
volunteerism by giving grants to the organizations they champion.

Around the world…
In the last 57 years, the Alcoa Foundation has invested over US$490 million in the
quality of life of the communities in which Alcoa operates.
In 2008, the combined donations of Alcoa and the Alcoa Foundation totaled US$50.6
million. The Foundation invested US$26.2 million in 35 countries where Alcoa operates.
Alcoa and other foundations associated with the company donated $US 24.4 million
to support projects and partnerships sponsored by NGOs around the world.
The Foundation manages the ACTION and Bravo! employee volunteerism programs. As
part of these programs, employees gave over 705,000 hours of their time in 2008,
supported by donations of over US$4 million to local organizations.
In Quebec…
In 2008, Alcoa Canada Primary Metals and the Alcoa Foundation donated over $3 million
to Quebec communities. No less than 25 group ACTION projects were carried out and
over 477 Alcoa Canada Primary Metals employees took part in the BRAVO! program that
supports individual volunteerism.
