April 1, 2004 Kawneer’s new AA™ 603 Tilt Slide Door is ideal for UK high rise residential market
Kawneer has added its new AA™ 603 Tilt Slide Door to its highly competitive, dual colour, fully integrated AA™ 600 Series Window & Door System. Developed to meet the requirements of the high rise residential market, the AA™ 603 Tilt Slide Door offers superior thermal and weather performance, and is suitable for both refurbishment and new build markets. It also provides architects and specifiers with the option of external access.
Maria Morgan, Kawneer’s senior product manager, comments: “Our research showed that within the residential market, particularly in relation to executive style apartments and high rise flats, external access is critical. People want to be able not only to open their apartment or balcony door from the outside, but also to lock it. Existing products on the market do not offer external access as an option.”
Kawneer has specified the hardware to a high level in order to ensure that the handle aesthetics are ideal for the UK. Maria Morgan explains, “Unlike competitive products, we have added a long lever handle that points down in the closed position. This feature meets the aesthetic requirements of UK architects and ensures that the AA™ 603 Tilt Slide Door integrates with and complements the rest of the window and door products in the AA™ 600 Series range. We researched all of the hardware ranges currently available and tested them all for ease of fabrication, operation in use and weathering. We selected a supplier capable of meeting market requirements and providing technical back up and support, and then specified exactly what we needed; we wanted to be confident that the door and its handle were fit for purpose.”
Other unique features of the AA™ 603 Tilt Slide Door include:
- a ‘track filler’ that can be clipped over the bottom track after installation, preventing debris from falling into the tracking space while other trades are working
- a full length ‘track support’ that facilitates level installation of individual door panels and ensures smooth, easy operation
The AA™ 603 Tilt Slide Door tilts for ventilation and slides for access, and is available in a variety of single and double panel tilt, slide and fixed light combinations. This provides architects and specifiers with the type of flexibility that is essential to meet individual project requirements.
Other features include:
- High stability sash weight of 130kg facilitating comfortable, smooth positive operation
- Anti-slam device in stays
- Anti-lockout device in the ‘sliding-unlocked’ position
- Spring loaded buffer to prevent the sliding vent from being opened too far
- Multi-point locking
- Adjustable locking cams for smoother handle operation and superior weathering
The AA™ 603 Tilt Slide Door has achieved the following stringent British and European standards:
- BS 6375 Part 1 Air Infiltration: Grade C at 600Pa; Watertightness: No leakage at 600Pa; Window Resistance: Up to 2400Pa.
- 2 & 3 Pane Air Permeability: BS EN 12207 1999 Class 4; Watertightness: BS EN 12208 2000 Class 9A; Resistance to Windload: BS EN 12210 1999 Class B5.
- 4 Pane Air Permeability: BS EN 12207 1999 Class 4; Watertightness: BS EN 12208 2000 Class 8A; Resistance to Windload: BS EN 12210 1999 Class C4.
The Kawneer AA™ 603 Tilt Slide Door can accommodate glazing and panels from 14mm to 38mm and is available in over 130 standard and 31 metallic Kawneer Permacover and Permacover Plus polyester powder paint finishes. A comprehensive range of standard and coloured Permanodic anodised finishes is also available.
