"Iceberg" Apartments with Eco-Friendly Reynolux® with EcoClean™ Roof and Facade Wins Design Award
A unique apartment complex in Aarhus, Denmark, that includes a Reynolux® with EcoClean™ roof and facade has won the Best Residential Development at the 2013 MIPIM, (Le marché international des professionnels de l'immobilier), a leading trade show for real estate professionals held in Cannes, France.
The "iceberg" project features 10,000 square meters (approximately 108,000 square feet) of Reynolux® with EcoClean™, produced by Alcoa Architectural Products in Merxheim, France.
The coating EcoClean™, applied to Reynolux®, is the first self- and air-cleaning aluminium roof and cladding panel. It interacts with sunlight to break down pollutants. The 10,000 square meters of Reynolux® with EcoClean™ on the Iceberg complex will have the cleansing power of approximately 800 trees. EcoClean™ is based on the revolutionary HYDROTECT™ technology from TOTO®.
The $89.4 million Iceberg building is part of a renovation and reuse project for a defunct container terminal at Aarhus Harbour. Its 250 apartments will be a mix of owned and rented dwellings and will range in style from penthouse suites to lofts and townhouses. Their unique design allows each to have a view of Aarhus Bay. One third of the homes are designed to be affordable for middle-income people, and the ground floor will be occupied by commercial space.
Architects on the project were JDS Architects, CEBRA, SeARCH and Louie Paillard. Our fabricator customer is Kalzip, www.kalzip.com.
