Alcoa, Brunei Join Hands to Help Youths

Alcoa is the founding sponsor of the Youth Skills Development program in Kg Tanah Jambu, Brunei. Alcoa teamed up with the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) and the Brunei Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports to launch the program, which will help youths obtain the necessary confidence and skills to join the private sector. Ken Wisnoski, President, Growth, Energy, Bauxite & Africa, participated in the event launching the program.
Pehin Dato Hj Mohammad, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, said the joint effort by BEDB and Alcoa illustrates how inter-sectoral partnerships could be formulated and implemented successfully. He commended BEDB and Alcoa for their contribution and initiatives in developing the entrepreneurial spirit of the younger generation and at the same time provide them with seed money to help them start their businesses.
"The best investment any of us can make anywhere is in the children and youth of the world," said Kenneth Wisnoski, President, Growth, Energy, Bauxite & Africa. "It is indeed Alcoa's privilege to have been invited by the BEDB to participate in the program and, with the generous assistance of Alcoa Foundation, we are delighted to be a founding sponsor of this program.
The program has three components: motivational talks to raise self esteem and confidence; business mentorship whereby successful members of the business community share their experience with participants in the program, and a micro grants plan to help participants who are serious about starting their own business.
