Since 2002, Alcoa has been engaging in discussions with the government of Brunei Darussalam to establish an aluminum production facility here. In 2008, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by both parties that outlines a commitment to perform more extended, detailed studies into the feasibility of establishing a modern, gas-powered aluminum smelter in Brunei Darussalam. In January 2010, the MOU was further extended to enable determination of feasibility to continue.
