Vânia Akabane has the challenge to lead and maintain the consolidation of one of the most efficient human resources models in Brazil

Executive Vânia Akabane has just taken over as the director of Human Resources for Alcoa Latin America and the Caribbean, which is presided over by Franklin L. Feder. The position was previously occupied by Silvia Dias, who is leaving the function after six years to become a human resources consultant in the coaching area for Alcoa. With a degree in Production Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP), and a graduate degree in Business Administration from the Getulio Vargas Foundation, Vânia Akabane’s responsibilities will include defining HR strategies, policies and programs in order to maintain and update the management model and lead one of Alcoa’s biggest challenges currently: to increase levels of commitment in order to guarantee a better performance and raise the retention indices of people. Vania has been with Alcoa since 2007 and worked as the company’s Talent Management and Organizational Effectiveness CoE manager, responsible for consolidating the Alcoa University, implementing the performance management cycle, the competences model, the Development Week, leadership development programs and all HR strategic planning activities. Before joining the Alcoa team the executive worked for more than 10 years in the consultancy area of Accenture, where she had the opportunity to lead complex global and local organizational change projects, when she was greatly exposed to all processes relating to people management. Vânia started her career as a trainee with Credicard, in the finance, credit, collection and human resources areas.
