Action is part of the Green Weeks Program that comprises some 50 activities in Brazil; the intention is to encourage environmental awareness

On June 11, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., on Praça Pery Camisão, alongside Casa da Cidade, Alcoa and the Alcoa Foundation are taking part in the D-Day Event, in partnership with the Chamber of Storekeepers of Tubarão (CDL). The initiative forms part of the Green Weeks Program and its objective is to distribute 200 fruit tree saplings, such as acerola and pitanga, as well as flowers. In addition to helping the environment, those who appear at the event will have the opportunity to find out more about Alcoa’s sustainability activities and see the model of the environmental park that will be inaugurated in Tubarão (SC). Alcoa has purchased the preservation area that borders the company’s unit in the municipality and will invest R$ 2 million in constructing the park. The location covers 37 hectares, of which 85% is native forest, with 176 different species of flora. In addition to preserving the biodiversity, the park will be used as an education and nature conservation center for the community. Another activity of the Green Weeks Program in the city was a partnership between the company and the Juscelino Kubitschek Municipal School, in an event that was held on June 8 in the São Cristovão district. Employees from Alcoa and the school’s second grade students distributed folders to the community on the importance of environmental preservation. These children will also have a symbolic graduation ceremony on June 21 at Alcoa because of their participation in various environmental activities.
