Tubarão Municipal Chamber pays tribute to Alcoa

Town councillors highlight the 3rd Alcoa and the Community Panel held on 14 July
In a Plenary Session of the Council Chamber of Tubarão (SC) municipal councillors praised Alcoa for its initiative in holding the 3rd Alcoa and the Community Panel on 14 July in the city.
The formal statement that was approved by Tubarão’s councillors reads “The event [Alcoa and the Community Panel] was extremely important for providing the community with information about the various institutions in our city that work to mitigate the difficulties of the people of Tubarão, with Alcoa funding such actions. In addition to generating employment and income for the municipality Alcoa acts in a strong and socially responsible manner and in the development of a cooperative spirit of solidarity, thereby improving the lives of those who live here”.
“We are proud of this recognition by the public authorities. The mention represents yet another incentive for us to continue with our actions in the communities and to contribute to the social and environmental development of those places where we are located”, says Marcelo Rodrigues, manager for Alcoa in Tubarão.
Community panels - Alcoa periodically holds Alcoa and the Community Panels in its units in Tubarão (SC), Itapissuma (PE), São Paulo (SP), Poços de Caldas (MG) and São Luís (MA). The objective is to strengthen the Company’s relationship with the communities where it operates and to be accountable to society in a clear and transparent manner.
Events are held in each of its units, during which the results of the community projects that have been implemented in partnership with the Company with funds from the Alcoa Institute and the Alcoa Foundation are presented. The institutions that benefit are audited through visits, the application of questionnaires and with photos and videos.
The Panel that was created and held for the first time in 1999 in Itapissuma (PE) brings together partners, authorities, the press, non-governmental organizations, leaders and employees of the local unit, in addition to the Community Relations Corporate Lead Team, the Regional Council of Community Relations and the Board and management of the Alcoa Institute.
