VIII Alcoa Task Force will bring together some 50 members from the Company’s offices in São Paulo and the community to paint, garden and carry out repairs to the installations of a charitable entity

On 1 August, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. some 50 volunteers will take part in the VIII Alcoa Task Force in the Ação Social Largo 13, a charitable entity that helps children, adolescents and the elderly in Santo Amaro, in the south of the city of Sao Paulo. Company and community representatives will roll up their sleeves and paint and repair the installations and tidy up the gardens of the institution that is located close to the São Paulo Business Center, where one of Alcoa’s offices is situated.
“Just as we do every year we’ve mobilized our employees for this important act of citizenship. We want community representatives to take part in the activity and feel even prouder of the results achieved during the eventâ€, says Suzana Sheffield, Vice President of the Alcoa Institute. “We believe that in this way we are encouraging voluntary work and contributing to a better future for these children and young peopleâ€.
“The type of work the volunteers will carry out here will help make the place where we are more human and improve its quality. We’re certain that everybody that goes past here will see a more attractive and happier place and this will contribute towards building up the self-respect, hope and citizenship of these peopleâ€, says Maryulda Thereza Fernandes Santos, volunteer director of the entity.
With the aim of improving the living conditions in the communities where the Company operates, representatives from the Alcoa Institute approached the directors of the entity to discuss the possibility of forming a partnership in this community action. In addition to the volunteer labor force the Alcoa Institute will donate all the material necessary for painting and repairing the building and doing the gardening. These tasks also form part of the Action program, in which 10 Alcoa employees and their family members carry out a minimum of 4 hours volunteer work on a Saturday or Sunday. In addition to the work that is being done the Alcoa Foundation will donate the equivalent of US$ 3000 in reais to the institution.
