With the fourth edition of the Alcoa and the Community Panel the Company will present the results of its projects in the São Paulo state capital and provide an account of its actions over the last three years

Tomorrow. July 14 the Alcoa Institute will be holding the fourth São Paulo edition of the Alcoa and the Community Panel. It will present the results of the community projects implemented in partnership with the Company, using funds that were donated between 2006 and 2008 by the Alcoa Institute and the Alcoa Foundation. For this edition 28 projects in 21 institutions were audited; donations of some R$ 550,000 have been made in the areas of health, education, sport, culture and public utilities.
“This type of initiative shows the Company’s commitment to the communities where it operates. We’re giving an account to society of all the work we’ve been doing over the last three years”, explains Suzana Sheffield, Vice President of the Alcoa Institute.
The Alcoa and the Community Panel is periodically held in the units in Itapissuma (PE), São Paulo (SP), Poços de Caldas (MG), Tubarão (SC) and São Luís (MA). The objective is to strengthen the relationship with the communities where the Company operates and provide society with a clear and transparent account of what it does in this area. All the institutions that benefited are audited by means of visits, the application of questionnaires and the production of photos. The Alcoa and the Community Panel was held for the first time in Itapissuma (PE) in 1999. In 2000 it was the turn for São Paulo to hold its first Panel.
“With these panels we show the results we’ve obtained with our community investments over the previous few years. These results have been excellent, showing the commitment of our employees to the quality of life in the communities where we operate. It also shows the serious way in which the institutions that benefited use the funds they’ve received from the Alcoa Foundation and the Alcoa Institute”, concludes Suzana. There will be some 30 Panel participants this year, including audited institutions and employees from the Unit.
