Alcoa’s Vice President, Communications to take part in congress in São Paulo

Jack Bergen will give a talk on May 29 in Sao Paulo, via videoconferencing, on Corporate Communication in the World Financial Crisis during the 12th Brazilian Corporate Communication Congress

Jack Bergen, Vice President, Communications for Alcoa, is one of the international guests at the 12th Brazilian Corporate Communication Congress, which will take place from May 27 to 29 in the Rebouças Convention Center. The presentation will be given by video-conference on Friday 05/29, at 9:30, and will be entitled Corporate Communication in the World Financial Crisis. Nemércio Nogueira, director of Institutional Affairs for Alcoa Latin America and the Caribbean, will also represent the Company at the Congress, on a panel promoted by CDI Comunicação Corporativa. He opens the presentations on Wednesday, 05/27 with a talk entitled: Sustainability is in our nature.

Jack Bergen is responsible globally for communications at Alcoa, the world leader in the aluminum sector. Previously Jack headed up the Communication and Marketing area at Siemens in the United States and was also director of Global Advertising at Siemens, with responsibility for this function in 190 countries.

He has also held prominent positions in the Communication area at CBS, Westinghouse and GE. He was also the CEO of the GCI Group, an international public relations and government affairs company that operates in 24 countries.

With his military experience in Vietnam, Europe and Korea, Jack Bergen also worked in the strategic planning sector at the Pentagon in Washington and was the chief speechwriter for the US Secretary of Defense, Caspar Weinberger, during the Reagan administration.

In 2007 he won the Atlas Prize from the Public Relations Society of America, for his professional achievements in international public relations. He was also elected Marketing Executive for 2005 by the Business Marketing Association of the USA.

Nemércio Nogueira will talk about sustainability, a priority and an integral part of Alcoa’s strategy. “Aluminum, the Company’s main product, translates to sustainability. The metal continuously transforms itself into new products that are useful in the day-to-day lives of human beings, in addition to the fact that the ore (bauxite) can be recycled and reused forever, as can the energy that is extracted from nature for producing it. That’s why we say that sustainability is in our nature”, explains Nemércio.

The Congress – The 12th Brazilian Corporate Communication Congress, the most important of its kind in Latin America, is aimed at journalists and public relations professionals who work in Communication and such like areas in corporate organizations.

Some of the themes that will be debated in line with the central theme (The new level of Corporate Communication in Brazil) are: Relations with the Media, Tools in Public Relations, Sustainability, Social Projects, Measuring Results, Communication Management, Communication in Time of Crisis, and others.

The full program of the 12th Brazilian Corporate Communication Congress includes seven plenary sessions (both Brazilian and international), 24 thematic talks and 8 workshops. Online enrollment can be carried out at www.megabrasil.com.br.
