Alcoa distinguished in the Dinheiro magazine ranking of the 500 Best Companies in Brazil

The Company conquered the first place, in the Mining category, in Financial Management, Corporate Governance and HR Management

The 2007 issue of Dinheiro magazine’s “The Best Companies in Brazil”, which has just been published, places Alcoa in second place in the Mining sector and in first place in the criteria of Financial Management, Corporate Governance and Human Resources Management. During the last year, mining sector was responsible for US$ 8,9 billion foreign brazilian sales, the main theme of the exporting list. 

The ranking is prepared on the basis of the responses to questionnaires sent by the magazine to companies operating in Brazil. The data are compiled, crossed and analyzed by Trevisan, a consulting firm.

Divided into 30 business sectors, the companies are then classified in five management criteria: Financial, HR, Innovation, Social and Environmental Commitment and Corporate Governance. In the Mining sector, Alcoa was classified in second place, with 113 points, closely trailing CBA, which had 116. CVRD was placed third, with 92 points, and Fosfértil fourth, with 86. In the Financial Management criterion, Alcoa was placed first, with 37 points, followed by CVRD (32), CBA (31) and Fosfértil (20).

Alcoa led also in HR Management, with 24 points. CBA received 23, Fosfértil 13 and CVRD 8 points.The first place was also Alcoa’s in Corporate Governance, with 20 points, trailed by Fosfértil (18), CBA (17) and CVRD (13).
