The Alcoa Business System, or ABS, is an integrated set of principles and tools used to control the Alcoa business. The three principal objectives of ABS are:
ABS - Make to Use
Produce and deliver products and services that attend to the requirements of our customers, in the exact quantity and at the exact time. The principle is based on customer usage, as opposed to making for inventory.
ABS - Elimination of Wastage
Seeks excellence in all areas. Time, movement, space, energy, materials, tools and machines, data and human activities that do not contribute with value to our products and services are forms of wastage that should be eliminated.
ABS - It is People Who Make Things Happen
People are resources with the creative capacity to think, produce and improve the value of the products and services for our customers. People are the links between the ABS elements in the system in the search for continued improvement to maximize value to customers. Alcoa will provide an atmosphere of confidence, dignity and respect that educates and motivates everyone to be outstanding in their work.
