Operating in a socially responsible way is one of SEFAC’s most important principles. The goal is to establish partnerships and cement actions that provide significant benefits for the local population. The public authorities, for example, are strategic partners for carrying out urban infrastructure building work and reinforcing public services.

To ensure greater transparency and trust in its actions SEFAC has a permanent dialogue with the population, using various tools, like the Communication Center and the setting up of committees that will have the participation of local leaders from the municipalities skirting the future reservoir. This is the way the company has found of adopting practices and methods that bring about improvements in the quality of life of the community.

Benefits for the population
Construction of the Serra do Facão Hydroelectric Power Station will bring improvements to local communities. It is worth pointing out that in the six municipalities located in the area of direct influence, in addition to the jobs created SEFAC is adopting programs for promoting environmental education, relocation and support for production activities, reurbanization projects, archaeological rescue and preservation activities, the production of scientific articles and books, valuing the cultural heritage, the application of resources in conservation units, providing technical assistance for rural families and doing infrastructure work in the areas of health, education, social assistance and public security.

Resettling the population
Construction of the Serra do Facão Hydroelectric Power Station requires the formation of a reservoir, which will flood neighboring land and because of this SEFAC is purchasing houses, properties and farms in order to clear the area that will be taken by the reservoir.

The Population Compensation and Resettlement Program establishes rules and procedures that must be considered during the process for moving families to other locations, in addition to respecting the relationships the communities have with the land and with their economic activities.

The families and the establishments that are on SEFAC’s Socio-economic Register can choose one of several types of negotiation, such as compensation, exchange, a letter of credit or rural or urban resettlement.
