Acting in a socially responsible manner is one of the most important principles of SEFAC. The goal is to sign partnership agreements and firm up actions that provide significant benefits for the local population. The government, for example, is a strategic partner for carrying out urban infrastructure work and reinforcing public services.
To ensure greater transparency and reliability in its activities SEFAC has a permanent dialogue with the local population, using various tools, like the Communication Center and the formation of committees that will benefit from the participation of local leaders from the municipalities surrounding the future reservoir. The company can, therefore, adopt practices and methods that improve the quality of life of the community.

Carapinas Bridge: infrastructure work rebuilt by SEFAC.
Benefits for the population
Construction of the Serra do Facão Hydroelectric Power Plant has brought improvements to local communities. In the six municipalities located in the area SEFAC directly impacts, in addition to the employment it has created it is also adopting programs for promoting environmental education, the relocation of and support for production activities, urban replanning projects, the introduction of social projects, archaeological preservation and rescue activities, the production of technical scientific articles and books, valuing the cultural heritage, the application of resources in conservation units, the provision of technical assistance for rural families and carrying out infrastructure work in the areas of health, education, social assistance and public security.
Resettling the population
Construction of the Serra do Facão Hydroelectric Power Plant requires the formation of the reservoir, the area of which occupied land located around it. Because of this SEFAC is purchasing houses, properties and farms to free up the area dedicated to the reservoir.
The Population Compensation and Resettlement Program establishes rules and procedures that must be considered during the process of moving families to other locations, in addition to respecting the relationships the communities have with the land and with their economic activities.
The families and establishments that are in SEFAC’s Socio-economic Register will be able to choose one of the negotiation modalities, such as compensation, exchange, letter of credit and rural or urban resettlement.
