The environment

Construction of the Barra Grande Hydropower Plant and implementation of the environmental programs prove that it is possible to reconcile socio-economic development with environmental conservation. Respect for the environment can be gauged by the various programs developed by BAESA and their respective results.

In fact, respect for the environment is one of the values advocated by BAESA. Its environmental actions have prioritized the conservation of natural resources, like water, vegetation and soil, and the preservation of national parks and ecological reserves, thereby guaranteeing that refuges are maintained for perpetuating species of flora and fauna.

BAESA understands that it is essential to ally activities that promote improvements in the quality of life of the local population with valuing the environment. The goal is to establish sustainability in such a way as to contribute to the formation of a region that is environmentally preserved, socially well-served and economically autonomous.

The Environmental Management System of the Barra Grande Hydropower Plant gained ISO 14001 certification in January 2010.
