The 2007 edition of the ranking of “The Best Companies in Brazil” from Dinheiro magazine, placed Alcoa in second place in the Mining sector and first for Financial Management, Corporate Governance and Human Resource Management.

Alcoa’s work entitled “The characterization of sprayable refractory concrete for lining alumina calcinators” won a Brazilian Association of Aluminum prize during the body’s last congress held in June, 2007.

Alcoa was the major winner in the Industry: Steel, Metal-working and Mining category of the 100+ Innovative in the Use of IT (2007 edition), an annual award given by Information Week magazine.

The 2007 Top Brands Prize, awarded by Arco Editorial, which is responsible for Projeto Design magazine and the Arcoweb website, was won by Alcoa in the Frames and Cladding Products categories. The Company was one of the most remembered brands for the third consecutive time.

The Supplier of Quality Assured Prize was awarded in November 2007, by Randon, which operates in the road haulage segment and in the highway and railroad implements, special vehicles, auto-parts, automotive systems and service areas.

'Alferes
Tiradentes' Medal |
The ‘Alferes Tiradentes’ Medal was awarded by the Minas Gerais State Police (PM-MG) in June 2007 and is the highest honor given by the PM-MG. The objective is to distinguish people and organizations that have contributed in a relevant way to the institution, as homage to the martyr of Brazil’s Independence and the patron of the country’s police forces, Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, Tiradentes (“Tooth-puller”).

The ‘Machadinha’ Commendation, awarded by the CBM-MG (Minas Gerais Fire Brigade) on July 3, 2007, recognized Alcoa for its contribution towards improving and perfecting the efficiency of the service provided by the Fire Brigade to the Itajubá community.

Handed over in March 2007, by the ‘Tiro de Guerra’ 04-021 (Brazilian Army) in acknowledgement of the support given by the unit to the ‘Tiro de Guerra’ [shot fired in war] by way of donations for buying furniture and for community projects.

Recognized in the Environment category, Alcoa received the prize in September 2007 from Unifenas (Alfenas University), jointly with Alterosa TV (affiliated to Globo TV) for work done in the Environmental Park in Alcoa’s Unit in Poços de Caldas (MG).

Awarded in October 2007 by Mercado Comum magazine, from Belo Horizonte, included in the list of the 60 companies that most distinguished themselves in the State of Minas Gerais, Alcoa won in two categories: Corporate Highlight of Minas – Quality and Productivity – and Excellence Company of Minas.

High Impact Suppliers’ Group Membership Diploma |
Awarded in November 2007, by NGK (a company in the auto-parts sector). This was mainly acknowledgement for achieving the highest level in the NGK audits carried out at the Poços de Caldas (MG) plant, as well as for guaranteeing supply following the agreement made with the Company that allowed NGK to eliminate the need to carry stocks of A-2 aluminum.

For its effective operations in the area covered by the Barra Grande Hydroelectric Power Station, BAESA was decorated in July for the case study "Barra Grande Hydroelectric Power Station: Actions for Sustainability". The Mário Henrique Simonsen Prize, Excellence in the Social Balance Sheet, 2007, was organized by FUNAGER (National Foundation for Managerial Support) and by ACRJ (Trade Association of Rio de Janeiro).
