The Worldwide Community Service Month is an event held every year in order to encourage volunteerism and bring together Alcoa’s global works for the benefit of several entities. It is an opportunity for recognition of the volunteers and institutions in the communities where the Company operates. In all of Alcoa’s units, employees conduct several activities for the benefit of the communities where those units are located, contributing to the common good through actions based on the theme for each year. The program always includes a presentation of the most varied of contributions and visits to charitable institutions by volunteers, as well as integration and recreational actions. “Safe and healthy children and families” was the theme chose for the latest event, which took place in October 2005. In Brazil, the week was attended by Alcoa’s global president and CEO Alain Belda, who was in Juruti, PA (State of Pará) and São Paulo, SP (State of São Paulo). The presence of the Company’s leading executive to encourage the works was also a way of honoring the country, which is the leader in volunteerism among the Company’s subsidiaries around the world.
