Alcoa works within the community in two ways: as a partner in the funding of community projects; and by carrying out community actions, encouraging corporate volunteering in both cases. The following are considered to be priority areas for the implementation of community actions or projects: education, health, infrastructure, the environment, social welfare, basic sanitation, sports, and public utility. Community projects All projects supported by Alcoa fulfill two prerequisites: an effective participation by our employees; and partnership with other companies, governmental agencies or institutions. Based on the community’s requirements and the proposals put forward by employees themselves, Alcoa raises funds for the projects. The Community Projects require approval and application of Funds by the Alcoa Institute and the Alcoa Foundation. In 2005, approximately US$ 1.2 million were invested in around 120 entities recommended by employees. Community Actions
Community Actions are carried out exclusively through one or more volunteering employees. Visits, activities and collective efforts take place in the institutions that are picked by the very volunteers from each of Alcoa’s units in Brazil. No financial resources are employed by the Alcoa Institute or the Alcoa Foundation.
