The Tool Department has been present in the municipality since 1990 and manufactures tools and accessories for aluminum extrusion that are shipped to other Alcoa sites in Brazil. The site inaugurated in 2005 the Alphaville Alcoa CSI plastic caps shipping division.
Located in Sorocaba, 96 kilometers from São Paulo state’s capital, the site sponsors community actions locally through several of the Company’s social responsibility programs, such as Bravo Brasil!, which has the participation of 50% of the Company’s employees and 100% of its trainees in the country. Also, the site participates in other programs e.g. “Action,” partnerships with the Fire Department, Sorocaba municipal government and other activities with the support of Alcoa Foundation and Alcoa Institute.
In 2005 the site was awarded first place in the Social Responsibility Award, a recognition of the Sorocaba region for services provided by Tool Department - Alcoa Sorocaba.
Concerning Safety, Health and Environment, the site is in compliance with the Company’s principles and has been working on improving its performance. Tool Department has been contributing with the Company’s extrusion sites in Brazil through its speedy delivery (98% of the tools are delivered within 5 days), excellence in quality and specialization in complex tool design and manufacturing.
