Registrations are now open for the 10th Alcoa Innovation in Aluminum Prize

To celebrate ten years of the Prize, the Innovation of the Decade Trophy has been instituted

Registrations are now open for the  10th Alcoa Innovation in Aluminum Prize 2011. The purpose of the competition is to encourage the use of an infinitely recyclable material – aluminum – in order to come up with projects that have creative and innovative product or application solutions for this metal. Projects must be enrolled for the competition by March 15, 2012 on www.alcoa.com.br.
 
Both students and professionals can register, including with proposals that use recycled aluminum waste. In the Student category students over 18 who are currently studying on a higher education technology, graduate or post-graduate (specialization) course may enroll. The work can have been carried out individually or as a group and must have been supervised by a professor from the same institution. 
 
The Professional category is open to people who work with project development. They must have a university degree or a minimum three-year experience in the market.
 
The work must be submitted in digital format  by April 10, 2012, also via the website, using the menu “Send Project”.  A committee will judge and award prizes separately by participation category. The final results will be announced at the prize ceremony event and on the website in May 2012.
 
 
 
Prize award
The student or team that, according to the judging committee, obtains first place will receive R$ 9000, a trophy and a diploma as a prize and the respective professor-supervisor will receive R$ 5000,  a trophy and a diploma. A donation worth R$ 5000 in teaching equipment will be made to the teaching institution attended by the prize-winner(s). The second placed will receive R$ 5000 and the supervisor will receive a notebook. The third placed will receive R$ 3000 and the supervisor will also win a notebook.
 
The Professional category will recognize three projects, the authors of which will receive, in addition to  a trophy and diploma, amounts of R$ 11,000, for the winner, R$ 6000 for the second placed and R$ 3000 for the third placed.
 
 
Innovation of the Decade Trophy
In commemoration of the Prize’s ten years, the Innovation of the Decade Trophy has been instituted. All the winning projects of the ten editions will compete for this prize, regardless of the category. The winner will receive a trophy and a trip to visit the Alcoa Technical Center (USA). In another category, tribute will also be paid to the teaching institution that has had the largest number of projects participating in the ten editions.

As in previous years the 10th Alcoa Innovation in Aluminum Prize has the institutional  support of the main sector bodies, such as the Institute of Engineering (IE), the Ethos Institute, the Association of Higher Education Teaching/Research in Design in Brazil (AEnD-BR), the Association of Product Designers (ADP), the Brazilian Association of Metallurgy, Materials and Mining (ABM ) and the Brazilian Association of Design Companies (ABEDESIGN). The Alcoa Prize also relies on the technical support of the Brazilian Association of  Aluminum (ABAL).
