Registrations for the 4th Alcoa Innovation in aluminum Awards will be accepted until June 30

Registrations for the 4th Alcoa Innovation in Aluminum Awards will be accepted thru until June 30, 2005 and should be made on the company web site (www.alcoa.com.br). The contest is divided into two categories: product development and management planning. The first one is for Engineering, Industrial Design, Design and Architecture undergraduate students, and the second is for Business Administration students.
The project theme is open and the participants should present a project for a new aluminum product or application that is technically feasible for industrial production or implementation. Geared towards college students who are enrolled in the fifth semester, it’s a scientific and cultural contest. Interested parties may participate with several papers, but all projects should be registered jointly, i.e. student and guiding professor. The deadline for submission of registered papers is August 29.
Launched in 2002, the awards aim to provide an incentive and disseminate Brazilian students’ ideas and stimulate the development of new projects and new applications, using aluminum in any available transformation processes. Another point worth mentioning is the incentive to discover new talent, therefore contributing to market development.
One of the things that sets the awards apart from others is its coverage, comprising from products and management, without curbing creative ideas. An example is the paper presented in 2004, focused on the creation of an executive briefcase called "short trip," an advanced design for those who go on short business trips.
The judging commission will select a maximum of three papers in each category, and one paper from each winning team (professor and student) will receive as compensation the amount of R$ 4,500 (four thousand five hundred Reais). The respective schools/courses to which the winners belong will receive a donation in didactic equipment for the amount of up to R$ 3,500 (three thousand five hundred Reais). The evaluation  of the projects will have two commissions, one for each category.
Detailed information on the paper format and rules can be found on Alcoa's web site. For questions, students can contact the awards organization by sending an e-mail to premioalcoa@alcoa.com.br.
