Alcoa has been named “Sustainable Company of the Year” in Brazil’s Exame magazine’s 2010 Sustainability Guide. The annual guide distinguish the sustainable actions of 20 model companies over the year and selects the one that stood out for its practices – in this case, Alcoa. Exame’s Sustainability Guide, in its 11th edition, is Brazil´s most prestigious annual survey on corporate social responsibility.

For the second consecutive year Alcoa was elected one of the biggest of the best companies to work for in Brazil. The study assessed the level of trust Alcoa employees have with regard to: Credibility, Respect, Impartiality and Companionship.
50 most high-tech companies in Brazil
A survey undertaken by Época Negócios magazine (Editora Globo) in October, in a partnership with consultancy company, Accenture, places the Company in a position of prominence. On the overall list, which covers both Brazilian companies and multinationals that operate in Brazil, Alcoa was placed 3rd behind just Itaú-Unibanco and Bradesco. The ranking was based on 32 questions sent to 300 major IT users that, among other things, evaluated innovation and investments in IT.
The Most ‘Switched on’ Companies in Brazil
Awarded by Exame magazine, published by Editora Abril, the ranking indicates the 100 Most ‘Switched On’ Companies in Brazil. In the general list of companies, which covers both Brazilians and multinationals operating in Brazil, Alcoa was placed 12th.

Awarded by Isto É Dinheiro magazine, published by Editora Três, Alcoa was recognized for its operations in Juruti, in the west of Pará; voluntary actions and the 2020 Global Sustainability Strategy.
100 Best Companies in the 2010 OHDI (Organizational Human Development Indicator)
Awarded by Gestão RH magazine, published by Editora Gestão & RH, the company was recognized for the good practices it adopts in Corporate Governance.
100 Most Sustainable Companies, according to the media
Awarded by Imprensa [Press] magazine, published by Imprensa Editorial, the company was among the 100 most positively cited companies in 2009 by weekly magazines and those that specialize in the economy and business.
ABAL (Brazilian Aluminum Association) Prize
The work carried out on concrete refractories was awarded a prize by the Brazilian Aluminum Association during its conference in May.
Awarded by the Maranhão press in December in recognition of the on-going actions of Alumar in social responsibility.
SESI Quality at Work Prize
The Consortium was recognized in the Safe and Healthy Work Environment category, with its Health Guidance Center project. It also won a prize in the Socio-environmental Development category, with its project for rehabilitating bauxite residue ponds.
CPRH- Pernambuco State Environment Agency
Recognition by the Prenambuco state body for Alcoa’s active participation during environment week in June.
Top Marks Exemplary Community Company diploma
Recognition from the USAB [Union of Societies of Neighborhood Friends of Poços de Caldas] for the significant actions undertaken by the Company on behalf of the community.
Million Work Hours Prize
A trophy awarded by Alcoa Inc. to the Unit for reaching one million hours worked without any occupational illness or injury resulting in employee time-lost.
Friend of the Battalion
Awarded by the Minas Gerais police for services provided to the institution.
Citizen Company Prize
Baesa was one of the winning companies of the ADVB 2010 Citizen Company Prize in July 2010 in the categories Environmental Preservation and Cultural Development. The Prize, organized by the Santa Catarina section office of the Association of Sales and Marketing Directors of Brazil (ADVB), is the main recognition given to socially responsible companies in the state.
Certificate of Excellence in Sustainable Management
The company was awarded a certificate in recognition of its excellence in sustainable management, because of its prominent participation in the 6th Socio-corporate Responsibility Survey of the Southern Region, promoted by Editora Expressão, in a partnership with Civitas Responsabilidade Social, a consultancy company that provides guidance for organizations from all over Brazil on how to adopt socially responsible actions.
Eloy Chaves Medal (Health and Safety at Work)
BAESA was one of the companies that was awarded the Eloy Chaves Medal, a prize promoted by the ABCE (Brazilian Association of Electricity Companies) that values companies from the energy sector that have most distinguished themselves in implementing preventive and corrective, work-related safety and hygiene measures.
500 Biggest Companies in the South Prize
A good economic and financial performance in 2009 helped Baesa win the 500 Biggest Companies in the South Prize. According to the assessment of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Baesa is the 30th largest company in Rio Grande do Sul and 80th in the south of Brazil. The 500 Largest Companies in the South Prize is promoted by Amanhã magazine and highlights the biggest companies in net shareholders’ equity, gross revenue and net income.
Social Responsibility Certificate 2010
Baesa was one of the companies awarded the Social Responsibility Prize 2010, promoted by the Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Sul. It was recognized for the result obtained with its "Include Program", which was developed with the objective of providing conditions for the social inclusion of families that were resettled by the company.
Corporate Highlight Prize 2010
CESTE was one of the companies that won the prize in November in the Social Action category. The prize was awarded by Rogério Amorim Promoção e Eventos.
