Alcoa came 1st in the mining and steel sector in the social and environmental category. The guide is a complete assessment of the biggest companies in Brazil and the aim is to classify them, based not only on their financial performance, but on all those dimensions that indicate their importance in society, and their capacity to stay on top, such as the quality of their corporate governance, the level of their social and environmental responsibility, their human resources policies, their innovation capability and their future vision.

According to a survey carried out by IstoÉ Dinheiro magazine, Alcoa is among the top places in the Social Responsibility and Innovation indicators in its sector in the 9th edition of “The Best of Dinheiro” award. In the Mining, Steel and Metal-working sector, the company came 2nd. The award evaluated the financial aspect, human resources, innovation and quality, social responsibility and corporate governance of companies.

In the 16th edition of the survey conducted by the Great Place to Work®, in partnership with Época magazine (Editora Globo), Alcoa was 1st in the category, “Best Companies for Women”. It was also classified for the 10th time among the 100 best companies in the Large and Multinational Companies category and recognized in the “Time on the List” category, because it has been in the ranking for the last 11 years. Alcoa came 8th in the sub-rankings “The Companies that Most Promoted” and “The Most Sought after Companies to Work For”.
“100 Best Companies in OHDI 2012" – Gestão & RH [Management & HR]
The objective of the OHDI (Organizational Human Development Indicator) and Corporate Citizenship surveys is to analyze the main practices adopted by companies with regard corporate governance.

The company is included among the 100 most positively cited companies in 2011 with regard to sustainability. The scope of the survey has also been expanded: in addition to surveying reports published in 2011 in the magazines, América Economia, Amanhã, CartaCapital, Exame, Época, Época Negócios, Veja, IstoÉ and IstoÉ Dinheiro, newspapers O Estado de S. Alcoa is one of the 30 companies included on the Você S/A Guide – The Best Companies to Start a Career in, by Você S/A magazine. This is the only organizational climate survey in the world directed exclusively at young people, which assesses the work environment and management practices and policies relating to these particular professionals.
“Most Admired HR Depts. in Brazil in 2012” - Gestão & RH
Alcoa is included among the 50 finalists in the award for the Most Admired HR Depts. in Brazil in 2012, according to a survey carried out by Gestão & RH Editora. Alcoa was also elected one of the 20 most admired companies by people management professionals in Brazil, with Vânia Akabane, director of Human Resources for Latin América & the Caribbean a highlight in the ranking of the managers who were evaluated.
Best Supplier of Aluminum
The company won an award from Proxyon and ZF América do Sul as the best supplier of aluminum in 2011. Alcoa was also chosen as one of the five best companies in the category, “Distinguished supplier” by ZF América do Sul, a producer of shock absorbers for automobiles for the main vehicle assemblers, like VW, FIAT, GM and FORD. This was the 9th edition of the prize and the first time that the company had received the title.
“IT Executive of the Year”
Tania Nossa, CIO for Alcoa in Latin América, was recognized as 2nd in the “IT Executive of the Year” ranking, produced by IT Mídia. The prize is one of the main recognitions for IT managers in Brazil and was carried out in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers. The award also guaranteed 2nd place to Alcoa in the category “Company with the Best Outsourcing Strategy”.
Abal Prize – 5th International Aluminum Congress
Recognition for the work: Nano-structured Concrete Refractories for alumina kilns – awarded to Mariana de Albuquerque Lima Braulio, Guilherme Gianini Morbioli, Bruno Henrique Teider, Jorge Borges Gallo and Victor Carlos Pandolfelli.
Exame’s Best and Biggest
Prepared from a database of more than 3,000 accounting statements, the ranking is based on a survey carried out in regional and sectoral segments and lists the 500 biggest companies in activity in the country by sales. Then, the biggest and best companies in each of the most representative sectors of the Brazilian economy are identified. In the Steel and Metal-working sector assessment the company came 10th.
