Dressed in high-vis, hard hats and glitter, around 100 Alcoa employees marched proudly in Saturday’s Perth Pride Parade in support of Western Australia’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) community.

The company’s participation in Pride WA’s 30th annual event was coordinated by Alcoa’s LGBTI ally network EAGLE - Employees at Alcoa for Gay, Lesbian, bisexual and transgender Equality.

Alcoa’s EAGLE lead and Pinjarra Alumina Refinery Manager, Mark Hodgson, led the Alcoa team and said enthusiasm for the event had grown bigger and better over the seven years the company had participated.

"We were proud to march alongside members of the LGBTI community and allies from an array of business and community groups in a fun and public display of support and celebration,” Mark said.

“At Alcoa, we’re building an ‘everyone culture’, where everyone can come to work and feel safe, equal and valued for who they are and the diversity of ideas and experiences they bring.

"These events help make a difference by putting LGBTI inclusion on the agenda, and I know they make a difference to the lives of our employees, their friends and families.”

The Alcoa team was the first resources company to march in the Pride Parade in 2014 and Alcoa has been a supporting partner of Pride WA since 2019.

Earlier this year, Alcoa was also acknowledged as a Bronze Tier Employer and leading resources company under the Australian Workplace Equality Index program, the national benchmark for LGBTI workplace inclusion.
