The Wandi Landcare Group

The Wandi Landcare Group was one of 22 West Australian community groups who shared over $600,000 provided to local groups as part of the Swan Alcoa Landcare Program (SALP).  The 2008 funding has been distributed to groups aiming to protect, revegetate and rehabilitate the land, around the Swan region in order to protect our rivers.

Wandi Landcare Group coordinator Ray Carter said, the $5,740 grant we received will help us continue planting at the local Magenup wetland area in Wandi.

“Last year the 400 seedlings we planted thrived and had a great survival rate and are beginning to really lift the area.

“This year we will consolidate the work we have already done in the area, with the revegetation already encouraging fauna back to the area.”

Managing Director of Alcoa of Australia, Alan Cransberg said: “Since SALP started in 1998, it has funded more than 600 projects worth $3.2 million and been responsible for more than 200 hectares of weed removal and more than one million trees being planted.”

“We are extremely proud that by the end of next year Alcoa will have invested $2.8 million into protecting and restoring our natural resources through SALP.”
SALP was established in 1998 and is driven by the Swan Catchment Council and co-funded by Alcoa of Australia and the Swan River Trust.  2008 marks the 10th anniversary of Alcoa’s support of and partnership with SALP.
