Cransberg joins West Coast board

Alcoa's Managing Director Alan Cransberg has been appointed to the West Coast Eagles board.

Alan Cransberg, a man with outstanding business and football acumen, has been appointed to the West Coast Eagles board of directors.

Currently the Managing Director of Alcoa Australia, Mr Cransberg is also a dual Swan Districts premiership player, being an integral part of the John Todd-coached triumphs of 1982 and 1983.

Mr Cransberg began his connection with Alcoa in Western Australia after graduating from the University of Western Australia with an honours degree in civil engineering. He worked with Alcoa Bauxite Mining Group and the Western Australian alumina refining system in various engineering, business analysis, planning and managerial positions from 1981 to 1997.

He was appointed Pinjarra Alumina Refinery location manager in 1998 and in 2001 moved to the USA as location manager of Alcoa’s Texas alumina and chemicals complex. In the seven years he spent in the USA, he took positions of increasing accountability ending his USA assignment based in the New York Head Office, where he was accountable for co-ordinating Alcoa’s Global Manufacturing in the areas of mining, refining and smelting. He was made a Vice President of Alcoa Inc in 2006 and returned to Western Australia in early 2008.

West Coast Eagles chairman Mark Barnaba said the club was delighted with the appointment to the board of someone boasting Mr Cransberg’s business and football background.

“The search for board members has been thorough and extensive and we are delighted that Alan will join our board,” Mr Barnaba said. “He has been extremely successful in business and also boasts sound football knowledge, so he brings to the table a rare mix of skills.”

Mr Cransberg was identified through recruiting agency Gerard Daniels and his appointment was ratified by the WA Football Commission.

Commission Chairman Neale Fong was also enthusiastic about the appointment.

“The WAFC is pleased with the appointment of Alan Cransberg,” Mr Fong said. “Someone who has local football pedigree and a huge reputation in the business and commercial world is hard to find. The West Coast Eagles and the WAFC have worked together in finalising this appointment.”

The club will continue its search for further directors.
