Alcoa Point Henry held its 2009 Alcoa Apprentice Awards night recently, to acknowledge the achievements of the plant’s apprentices.

Around 150 guests attended the annual event at Point Henry’s Kommercial Café, to help celebrate the achievements of all the apprentices and trainees. The Alcoa and Alcoa ARP Apprentice Awards night is an annual event to recognise the achievement of apprentices from the two Alcoa businesses operating at Point Henry, and to provide an opportunity for apprentices, trainees and families to get together and celebrate these achievements with others from Alcoa’s Point Henry and Anglesea operations and the community. Special guest presenter Michael Kenwright presented the prestigious award in honour of his father, the Trevor Kenwright Award. This award marks the most outstanding fourth year apprentice and recognises the effort, diligence and consistent performance required of apprentices over the term of apprenticeship. Prior to the 1997 awards, Alcoa lost a friend and workmate in Trevor Kenwright as the consequence of a tragic accident. Trevor was a strong supporter of activities and training that provided opportunity to young people, allowing them to realise their potential. The 25 graduates of the 2009 Alcoa Future Leaders of Industry scholarship program and the programs 15 supporting companies were also recognised on the night.
