Staff restructure complete

Portland Aluminium confirmed today the staff restructure announced in mid-August has been finalised, with some employees accepting role changes and nine employees accepting redundancies.

In April this year, Portland Aluminium announced a 15 per cent curtailment in production and a target to reduce overall costs by 10-15 per cent.

Portland Aluminium Operations Manager Mr John Osborne said the business has worked consultatively with employees, unions, contractors and suppliers since the announcement.

“There have been a number of employees who have accepted other roles within the business and a redundancy program has been implemented through a restructure of the staff area,” Mr Osborne said.

Mr Osborne said cost cutting still remains a priority and the business still had more work to do to ensure its long term sustainability.

“There’s been a great deal of work undertaken to reduce costs, but with Australian dollar around the 90 cent mark, as well as the impending Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, we need to remain vigilant in reducing cost.”
