Muckheap gets messy in Anglesea

This month, arts2GO and Outreach Partners Alcoa of Australia are thrilled to be working once again with one of Australia's leading children's performance companies, Polyglot.

A performance of Polyglot’s popular work Muckheap, was seen this week by Anglesea Primary School students at the Anglesea Hall. Funny, fast and colourful, Muckheap is a tale of two people trying to clean out their shed for hard rubbish day. In the process, they find everything they thought was junk is too interesting, useful or too full of memories to throw away. Muckheap displays the awesome power of the puppeteer as pieces of junk are brought to life as characters in front of the audience’s eyes. The show’s key message is clear: humans can minimise their impact on the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling waste. Anglesea Primary School Principal, Pamela Sandlant commented that “This is the third time our entire student body has been able to enjoy the magnificent work of Regional Arts Victoria at no charge thanks to their ongoing partnership with Alcoa. "It was wonderful to see people of all ages enthralled by the talent and magic of the Polyglot Puppet Theatre!” In 2008, students at Anglesea experienced their first Polyglot show through arts2GO, Check Out! Alcoa Anglesea Power Station Manager Stephanie Pearce said Alcoa is very proud our partnership with Regional Arts Victoria has allowed such a wonderful show to come to Anglesea Primary School. "Alcoa is focused on building community capacity and a sustainable future for all through its partnership programs and we are proud to work with Regional Arts Victoria to bring the arts2GO touring program to children in regional Victoria,” Stephanie said. Regional Arts Victoria, through arts2GO, is committed to engaging Victorian children and young people with the arts through the development of performing and visual arts experiences. arts2GO tours a variety of programs, with more than half of these incursions happening in regional or remote areas of Victoria and has been doing so for 40 years. In 2008, arts2GO reached over 35,000 students in more than 350 schools. About Polyglot Polyglot is unique in the diversity of its program, its exploration of puppetry arts, its engagement with communities, its artist support programs and its creative processes which place children's imaginations at the centre of a collaborative arts practice. Muckheap is one of Polyglot’s most successful theatre performances ever. Now in its ninth year of touring, it has played everywhere from the Sydney Opera House to the Esplanade Theatre in Singapore and beyond, reaching over 80 000 school children.
