Brekkie recognising our volunteers

Portland Aluminium has this morning recognised employees who volunteer in the community by starting the day with a traditional Aussie breakfast.
Coinciding with the Alcoa Foundation’s fourth annual Month of Service, Portland Aluminium held their Bravo! Breakfast, where Portland Aluminium BRAVO! grant recipients, along with representatives from its community partner organisations who were also invited to attend the celebration.
The Alcoa Foundation’s Bravo! program recognises Alcoa employees who have devoted 50 or more personal hours to a community organisation in a 12 month period. The employee nominates the community organisation which receives a US$250 grant from Alcoa Foundation.
Last year, 148 Portland Aluminium employees volunteered 23,338 hours to over 50 community organisations, to qualify for the Bravo! program and amounting to around $36,750 of support into the Portland and district community. That’s a staggering 25 per cent of the workforce involved in some serious volunteer hours!
Portland Aluminium Operations Manager John Osborne congratulated the smelter’s Bravo! grant recipients and said that supporting employees who were volunteers was an important part of the company’s commitment to partnering stronger communities.
“Encouraging and supporting our employees to volunteer is a key part of our commitment and it is inspiring to see so many of them involved,” Mr Osborne said.
"I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate our employees who have received Bravo! grants for their volunteer work last year, and encourage them and more to register for a Bravo! Grant this year.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of community organisations and at Portland Aluminium we are proud to have such an engaged workforce who contribute so much to the community in which we live and work.”
