Voluntary redundancies accepted

Portland Aluminium confirmed today that 24 voluntary redundancy packages have been offered and accepted by employees working in the operations area.

In April this year, Portland Aluminium announced a 15 per cent curtailment in production and set a target to reduce overall costs by 10-15 per cent.
Portland Aluminium Operations Manager Mr John Osborne said the business has worked consultatively with employees, unions, contractors and suppliers since the announcement.
“The redundancies have been selected from expressions of interest received from members of the Australian Workers Union earlier in July.”
Mr Osborne said the voluntary redundancies will take effect from July 31 but other restructuring activities will continue until the cost reduction targets are achieved.
“There’s been a great deal of work undertaken to reduce costs but there is still more work to be done.”
