Alcoa Anglesea has awarded a US$3000 ACTION grant to the Anglesea and District Community House.

The grant is to be supported by the efforts of Alcoa volunteers who will this week work to lay artificial turf at Anglesea and District Community House, providing a safer outdoor play area for children. The grant and volunteer work is part of the Alcoa Foundation’s ACTION (Alcoans Coming Together in Our Neighbourhoods) program, developed by the Alcoa Foundation to recognise the collective efforts of Alcoans in communities where they live and work. Anglesea and District Community House provides occasional childcare facilities for the community. Due to drought conditions and water restrictions, a section of the childcare outdoor play area has turned to hard-packed dirt and gravel. Julie Flynn, Manager Anglesea and District Community House, said they are thankful for Alcoa’s support. “We are very grateful to Alcoa for their generosity and for their strong support of the ADCH over many years. The new turf will ensure a safe and long term environmentally sustainable solution,” Julie said. On Thursday, 2 July, volunteers will help to remove stepping stone pavers, level the ground, lay turf and replace the stepping stones, allowing children to utilise what was a non-accessible area and benefit from the improved play area. Alcoa Anglesea Acting Manager Chris Rolland said that ACTION events are an important part of Alcoa’s commitment to the Anglesea community. “Encouraging and supporting our employees to volunteer is a key part of our commitment to the Anglesea community and it is great to see so many of them helping out at these events.” “These events benefit community organisations like Anglesea and District Community House but our employees who volunteer also get the opportunity to learn more about their community and to contribute in a practical way,” Chris said. Alcoa Foundation is a non-profit U.S. corporate foundation with assets of approximately US$370 million. Its mission is to actively invest in the quality of life in Alcoa communities worldwide. Throughout it history, Alcoa Foundation has been a source of positive community change and enhancement, with over US$490 million invested since 1952.
