The 2008 Alcoa Celebrate ALL Abilities Festival was launched with the opening of a new lift that will allow people of all abilities to enjoy one of the Geelong waterfront’s key attractions.

The mobility lift was fitted to the Carousel at Geelong’s waterfront so that the popular ride is now accessible for everyone. City of Greater Geelong’s Community Development Manager, Paul Jamieson said that the installation is part of the City’s plan to make Geelong a welcoming and inclusive community for people of all abilities. “This mobility lift is an example of one of the many ways that people with disabilities can be equally included in the community,” he said. “The opening of the lift is a perfect way to launch the 2008 Alcoa Celebrate ALL Abilities Festival, which holds a special place in Geelong's events calendar.” The festival aims to increase public awareness that people of all abilities should be welcomed and included in every aspect of community life. Only in its fourth year, the Alcoa Celebrate ALL Abilities Festival is recognised throughout Victoria for its innovative approach to showcasing how to include people of all abilities and their families in the community. Alcoa is proud to support the Festival through the Alcoa Foundation. Alcoa Point Henry HR Business Partner David Monahan said that as a company, Alcoa is committed to promoting diversity in the community and our workplace. "Our Point Henry site has long standing partnerships with a number of key agencies, including Kommercial and Encompass that provide paid employment for around 50 people with disabilities." "We believe the Festival has so many positive impacts on our community – it brings us together, promotes understanding and inclusiveness and celebrates the abilities of all members of the community."
