Around 30 permanent and non-permanent Anglesea residents converged on Alcoa Anglesea on Saturday 28 June 2008 as the site continued the activities of its reinvigorated community engagement program.

Anglesea ratepayers and key stakeholders were invited to take part in a number of engagement opportunities through the Alcoa Anglesea newsletter which was posted in mid-May. Following a positive community response, Saturday’s activities catered for those people who indicated an interest in a site tour, or in joining the Community Consultation Network or the Sulphur Dioxide Management Project – Alcoa Anglesea’s most significant environmental project for 2008.
Alcoa employees guided the community members on a general tour of the Anglesea site, taking in the coal mine and power station. A lunch was also provided which gave residents and Alcoa employees a chance to meet and discuss the Anglesea business in a social setting.
Acting Anglesea Power Station Manager, Mr Chris Rolland said he is pleased with the response from the Anglesea community which has helped the site to build on its existing consultation and engagement programs.
“The Alcoa Anglesea News mail out produced a great response, including bringing us in to contact with local people we had not met before, enabling us to expand our Community Consultation Network and brief interested community members on our Sulphur Dioxide Management Project,” Mr Rolland said.
“The responses have helped us to identify how Anglesea residents would like us to communicate with them. It has also allowed us to engage with a wider range of residents, both permanent and non-permanent, on aspects of our business that are of interest to them.”
“Today’s events are just some of the new initiatives we are implementing to better engage with the community and I look forward to seeing the outcomes of future engagement initiatives,” he said.
