African women celebrate Refugee Week

Hundreds of African women in traditional dress danced the night away at Cabra Vale Diggers Club as part of Refugee Week celebrations.

The African Women's Dinner Dance was organized by the African Women’s Group of NSW and supported by the Alcoa Foundation, NSW Community Relations Commission, NSW Multicultural Health Communication, NSW Office for Women, STARTTS and Fairfield MRC Fashion Show.

A talented line up of African performers entertained over 400 guests throughout the night, and a fashion competition showcased a stunning variety of traditional and modern African dress.

Alcoa Australia Rolled Products Yennora employees and Alcoa Foundation Manager Erin Bourne volunteered at the event.

“It was an honour to volunteer at such a culturally diverse, colourful event full of strong and interesting women living in Alcoa's local community’, said Erin. ‘The event was very lively and very well attended and provided great evidence of the strength of community in Sydney's West.’
