Update on Point Henry’s Carbon Bake Upgrade

As previously reported Alcoa Point Henry’s $89m carbon bake upgrade was completed on schedule and commissioning commenced on 2 November 2007.

The project included the installation of a new fume treatment centre called the carbon bake scrubber.

On Tuesday 20 May two unplanned scrubber outages occurred in the carbon bake area, lasting for 65 minutes in total.

The cause of the scrubber going into bypass on both occasions has been investigated and determined to be a jammed float valve in the water supply tank preventing water supply to cooling tower.

The issue was rectified and corrective actions have been implemented.

The Victorian EPA has been advised of this matter.
