Over thirty Primary school student leaders from five primary schools in the Geelong and Anglesea region will today (Wednesday 12 March) come together to learn how to Think Safe, Play Safe at school.

The KIDS Foundation’s safety education program, The Safety Club, in conjunction with the Alcoa Foundation, will host the Safety Education and Leadership Field Day at Leopold Primary School.
KIDS Foundation Head of Injury Prevention, Ms Amy Gillett, said the Safety Education and Leadership Field Day aimed to teach grade five and six students how to identify hazards in their school environments and introduce them to the Think Safe, Play Safe message through a range of activities.
“Every day 5000 children are injured in accidents that could be prevented” Ms Gillett said.
“The Field Day introduces students to the KIDS Foundation’s school-based program called the Safety Club which guides communities on issues of child safety and injury prevention.”
The safety message will be further reinforced through the involvement of Alcoa health and safety managers, based at plants in the Geelong and Anglesea regions, who will talk to students about the importance of safe behaviour.
Alcoa Point Henry Acting Operations Manager Stewart Esdale said Alcoa was pleased to be able to assist KIDS Foundation in teaching children how to prevent accidents not only in schools but also in their homes.
“The Safety Club safety education program reflects Alcoa’s own strong safety culture in preventing accidents and achieving zero injuries in the workplace,” Mr Esdale said.
